Knowledge and personal development is truly empowering. As the Up For a Chat girls say ‘When you know better, you do better.’ Not only that, but you can achieve some pretty amazing feats. 10 years ago I never would have dreamed I would be where I am today......... It was through learning from the Up For A Chat girls, reading their books, completing my degree, and immersing myself in the health and wellness culture that I got here. Education. My best friend. To this day I am forever completing various courses at a time, constantly searching for new information to better my life and those I serve around me.
The thing is, I know this hunger to grow and know more is within every one of us. We are innately inquisitive creatures, however, throughout our lifetimes this curiosity can be stamped down, hidden by learned insecurities of ‘not smart enough’, ‘not driven enough’, and simply ‘not enough’. But it’s still in there! These are merely stories that have been told to you, that are not an accurate representation of reality. We all learn in our own ways at our own pace, but we are, indeed, learners. Take it one step at a time and soon the momentum will have you closer to your dreams than you had ever imagined possible.
Learning is especially important in terms of our health and wellness. We have been conditioned to believe that our health is out of our hands; only our doctors can do anything to heal us, and even then there are things we just have to ‘deal with’. Here, we have dis-empowered ourselves to the point of sickness we find ourselves in today. By enabling yourself to learn about your own healing and your own body you can make educated decisions about your health, to ultimately lead to your optimal health. In our world of health conditions we must ‘just deal with’, few know the true meaning and feeling of ‘Optimal Health’. It’s my mission to change that. How? Through education of course!
Here are a few recommendations of places to start to empower your own health:
- Read - Start to read a collection of books on health topics that interest you. "Changing Habits, Changing Lives", "Grain Brain", "Primal Body Primal Mind", "Like Chocolate for Women", "Why we get Fat", "Loving What Is"
- Listen - Download and Listen to Podcasts. "Up for a Chat", "The Wellness Couch", "Rewild Yourself:", "Big Magic"
- Follow - Use your Social Media platforms to follow empowering, inspiring mentors, read their articles and get involved in the wellness conversation
- People - Find your tribe. Try out a new coffee shop, join a wellness group or just ask a friend out for lunch who you know is into health and wellness. People who are like minded and on a similar journey make for a great support network whether that be online or face to face
